The Career and Craft spread
5 cards
Career and Craft is for a defined work question: a role, project, business decision or period of professional uncertainty. It separates the visible obstacle from the influence you may not have accounted for.
The positions, in order
- 1. Where You Stand — Your true current position in their work or craft
- 2. The Obstacle — The main thing in the way of progress
- 3. The Hidden Hand — An unseen influence, ally or undercurrent affecting the situation
- 4. The Counsel — The move the deck advises you to make
- 5. The Outcome — Where things land if the counsel is followed
Questions this spread suits
- What is holding this project back?
- How should I approach my next career move?
- What am I undervaluing in my work?
- Where will this role lead if I stay?
How to read the cards together
Read Where You Stand as a factual baseline rather than an aspiration. The Obstacle and Hidden Hand should be compared: one may be obvious while the other points to timing, support, a habit or an assumption. The Counsel must translate into a concrete next move. The Outcome then describes the likely result if that move is taken, not a promise of promotion or income.
Where this spread stops
Tarot cannot verify an employer’s intentions, forecast markets or replace professional financial advice. Use the spread to organise what you know, identify a question for a manager or client, and decide which evidence you still need.
Put the positions around a real question and read the cards as one connected answer.
