The Horseshoe spread
7 cards
The Horseshoe gives a broad view without the density of a Celtic Cross. Its arc moves from history and current conditions through what is hidden, then towards advice and the most likely outcome.
The positions, in order
- 1. The Past — Past influences on the matter
- 2. The Present — The present state of the matter
- 3. Hidden Influences — What works beneath the surface, unseen by you
- 4. The Obstacle — The chief obstacle in your path
- 5. The Surroundings — The attitudes and influence of people around you
- 6. The Counsel — The wisest course of action open to you
- 7. The Outcome — The most likely outcome of the matter
Questions this spread suits
- What is shaping this situation as a whole?
- How can I move through the obstacle in front of me?
- What influence have I overlooked?
- Where is this plan likely to lead?
How to read the cards together
Read the Past and Present as a pair before moving into Hidden Influences. The central Obstacle acts as the hinge of the arc. Surroundings then shows how other people or the wider setting affect the matter; it should not be treated as mind-reading. Compare Counsel with Outcome to see whether the likely result follows the advice or reflects the current pattern continuing unchanged.
Where this spread stops
This spread handles one substantial subject at a time. A vague request for “everything” produces a scattered result. Name the area, the present uncertainty and a reasonable time frame before the draw.
Put the positions around a real question and read the cards as one connected answer.
