The Past, Present and Future spread
3 cards
Past, Present and Future is a compact way to see how a situation developed, what drives it now and where the current direction may lead. The final card describes momentum, not an unavoidable fate.
The positions, in order
- 1. The Past — Past influences and events that shaped the present situation
- 2. The Present — The heart of the situation as it stands right now
- 3. The Future — Where the current energy is flowing if nothing changes course
Questions this spread suits
- How did this pattern begin?
- What is shaping this relationship now?
- Where is my current work plan heading?
- What changes if I continue as I am?
How to read the cards together
Start with the Present card because it anchors the other two. Compare the Past card for a repeated suit, number, figure or visual direction; this shows what still carries forward. Then read the Future card as the likely result of the present pattern. If the last card is uncomfortable, return to the Present and ask which action remains within your control.
Where this spread stops
Keep the time frame proportionate to the question. Three cards can describe the next stage of a project or relationship, but they cannot responsibly settle a distant life outcome. Name the period before drawing when timing matters.
Put the positions around a real question and read the cards as one connected answer.
